Every year there are a whole host of conventions where companies showcase their new up and coming technology and equipment. It goes without saying that each year the technology is getting smaller in size, and that also comes without a reduction of quality.
At one point in time to shoot in RAW one would require the use of a RED camera or something similar; a camera that requires at least 10-15 minutes set up. Now you can shoot in RAW on a camera that can fit into your pocket and can be set up within seconds.
But what about audio? The ability to capture good audio on the fly has become increasingly easier. Yesterday, BBC World News posted a video of a journalist covering the Germany Football team arriving home, and the journalist was using what can only be described as a pair of earphones to interview fans (seriously, watch the video). However, the sound isn’t all that great, I can understand the practical use if you are in that environment and you need to be agile, but what about when you’re not in that environment and you’re looking for great sound with the smallest possible setup?
This is how:
The RØDE iXY. It is a studio quality microphone for iOS devices. It’s able to record at such a high-quality resolution.
